The characters and plot were thin, and I feel a story of this type of relationship warrants a plot of more substance. Also, it appeared the final draft was not proofread before printing, as many sentences used incorrect words or were missing words altogether. wow, a bdsm themed story, not fraught with difficulty and angst?... how refreshing...
I loved this story. Mark and Erica literally just gave over to their feelings and let themselves fall in love. They explored their sexual desires, they learned about each other, they let themselves be immersed in the entire journey and honestly and truly fell in love. No massive hang ups from past experiences, no major chips on their shoulders from past hurts or fears. Just two people who gave it a chance and worked through it. And quite a sweet introduction to the bdsm scene, for those out there who maybe want to ease in to the genre a bit more slowly...
Big, deep sigh of contentment!... Absolutely loving and enjoyable story. Looking forward to reading more of this authors books.
As colleagues at Aspen Advertising, Mark Shields and Erica Cross know each other only peripherally. They see each other in the hallways, pass each other in the company gym... and fantasize about each other in the privacy of their own thoughts.
On his own intuition, Mark invites Erica for dinner in hopes of a slow seduction. But one touch from the woman and sparks explode between them. Sex is heated and passionate and soon both realize what started out as a casual affair has become so much more. But what will Erica think when Mark tells her he's a Dominant and he not only wants her as his lover, but also as his submissive?
Shield's Submissive is a red hot, fast-paced read. Erica is fully aware that Mark is dominant, based on his intense, masterful loving. But he's so worried about how she'll react when her knowledge goes from knowing that he is dominant to the fact that he is a Dominant. Reading about their journey as she discovers not only his dominance but her submissiveness is so alluring and arousing.
It really seems to be the best way for a couple to evolve and reading about Erica and Mark just furthers that belief. Instead of jumping straight into D/s, they come to know each other as people first, develop trust on a more basic level before adding this dimension to their relationship. This really does enhance not only their sex, but every aspect of their interactions.
It was so easy to become emotionally invested in this couple, not only with Mark's vulnerability as he begins to admit his feelings for Erica, but also with Erica's insecurities as she comes to grips with potentially having a family again. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and eagerly wait any new BDSM stories from the creative mind of author Trina Lane.

I am somewhat new to the genre. If this is a first effort, then the author has promise. If this is typical of her work, I won't buy her books. Several times the conversations and actions seemed stilted or forced, as if the editor or the author was trying to increase the word count. It's not a bad book and I won't say. "Don't buy it". I found the story predictable and lacking in depth of characters and plot development.
